Futurama

Futurama is an American animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening for Fox Broadcasting. The series follows the adventures of Philip J. Fry, a late-20th-century pizza delivery guy from New York City, who is accidentally cryogenically frozen for 1,000 years. When he wakes up in the 31st century, he finds work at Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery service.

Groening came up with the idea for Futurama in the mid-90s while working on The Simpsons, and later brought David X. Cohen on board to help develop the characters and storylines for the show, which was pitched to Fox. The series originally aired on Fox from March 28, 1999, to August 10, 2003, before being canceled. Futurama then aired in reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim from 2003 to 2007, until the network's contract ended.

In 2007, Futurama was revived with four direct-to-video films, the last of which was released in 2009. Comedy Central then reached an agreement with 20th Century Fox Television to syndicate the show’s existing episodes and air the films as 16 new half-hour episodes, forming the fifth season.
