"Rick and Morty" is an adult animated sci-fi sitcom from the U.S. created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Cartoon Network's late-night Adult Swim. It follows the wild escapades of Rick Sanchez, a cynical mad scientist, and his well-meaning but anxious grandson, Morty Smith, as they juggle family life with crazy interdimensional adventures. Roiland voices both main characters, while Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke round out the family. The show actually started as a short parody of "Back to the Future" that Roiland made for Channel 101, which Harmon co-founded. Critics love it for its originality, creativity, and humor. The fourth season kicked off on November 10, 2019, with ten episodes, and a fifth season was confirmed in July 2020 as part of a deal for 70 new episodes over several seasons. The Smith family includes parents Jerry and Beth, their kids Summer and Morty, and Beth's dad, Rick, who crashes with them. They live outside Seattle, but their adventures take them across countless realities, hopping between planets and dimensions using portals and Rick's flying car. Rick is an eccentric, hard-drinking scientist who doesn't care about typical stuff like school or family, while Morty, a 14-year-old, is sweet but easily stressed and serves as a moral counterpoint to Rick's chaos. Morty's 17-year-old sister, Summer, is your typical teen, trying to fit in but sometimes joins their wild trips. Their mom, Beth, is pretty grounded and assertive, but she feels insecure about her job as a horse surgeon and is unhappy in her marriage to Jerry, who's simple-minded and doesn’t like Rick’s influence on the family.
